Correlation between brain size and mental opportunities has been a disputed issue for a long time. The X-ray of genius physicist’s brain shot in 1945, ten years before his death, confirmed the absurdity of the dispute.

In 1999 was conducted pathologic-anatomical studies, his brain weighed 1.230 grams. The study revealed, that scientist’s brain was smaller than usual brain. However, gray substance was in some disorder. In particular, his Parietal lobe (which is responsible for the spatial and visual perception) was on 15 % more broad than usual.

X-ray picture of scientist’s brain was sold for 24.730 Dollars on “Julien’s Auction” in 2010. A happy buyer has bought it 20 times more expensive than it was announced.

Sean Avery Sculptures

Australian artist Sean Avery supports global trend of recycling. Instead of throwing away old CDs, he creates amazing animal sculptures from them. He uses special layering technique, that makes this sculptures very realistic, it looks like real feathers or animal fur.

“I blend many different man made materials together to make them appear strangely organic, with a distinct sense of movement” – says Sean.

New iPods make CDs obsolete and Sean decided to breath the new life into them.

Dennis Manarchy Pictures

Dennis Manarchy is renowned photographer, who creates the most unusual camera in the world. It is so big that it barely fit in the truck and it captures 24-foot tall realistic photographs of incredible detail. Camera is huge – 35 feet long, 12 feet tall and 8 feet wide, it uses negatives that are 4.5×6 feet in size.

As Manarchy says it is very difficult to work with such camera, there is no retakes and you must be very careful to not click it away, you should plan pictures very well.

This is dream camera for Dennis Manarchy. He wants to drive with it around America, across all 50 states. His aim is to create a collection of photographs that tell the stories of American culture and history that have played their role in creating the nation.

Pictures of cowboys, Eskimos, Cajuns, Native Americans and WW2 veterans will be part of the project called “Vanishing Cultures“. After the trip, Manarchy plans to have the 24 feet photographs displayed along with the negatives in stadiums all over America.

Princess Martha Louise and Elisabeth Nordeng

It turned out that Norwegian Princess Martha Louise not only speaks with angels but then can also teach you how to do it. Few days ago she released with co-author Elisabeth Nordeng a sequel for her book “Discover your Guardian Angel” – it is called “The Secrets of Angels“.

Princess Martha Louise is the daughter of King Harald and Queen Sonja. She refused from her title in order to further her spiritual pursuits. She says that she realized her innate abilities to contact with angels as she was a child. She is also trained in physical therapy and was always interested in alternative forms of treatment.

“Use angels and your own power to create miracles in your life” – is a slogan of her Astarte Education Center.

Greenhouse Museum Paris

In Paris Greenhouse Museum, February 22 opens an exhibition “Debussy – Music and Art” dedicated to composers relationship with his contemporaries, poets and artists.

The composer could see collections of modern art in the homes of his friends Henri Leroux, Ernest Chausson and Arthur Fontaine. Among presented names – Degas, Renoir, Villar, Gauguin, Vuillard, Camille Claudel, Maurice Denis, Redon, Bonnard, Carriere, Puvis de Chavannes.  The exhibition also will feature autographs of Debussy and Chausson, publications of Valerie, Gide, Louis.

In frameworks of exposition will be held two excursions: at March 3 and June 10. The film Revoir Nijinsky Dancer will be shown every day and in the “Hall of Waterlilies“, which received its name from the famous mural of Monet, located in it, will be held few concerts (9 and 23 March, 6 April, 4 May).

The exhibition runs until June 11.

Rembrandts Graphics

In Museum-house of Rembrandt in Amsterdam is held and exhibition of paintings and engraves of artist and his contemporaries from the collection Kunsthalle Hamburg.

Hamburg’s collection of Netherlandish graphics is famous includes about 1400 pages, it is based on work of art, collected by Georg Ernst Harzen in XIX century.

The exposition features more than 1000 graphic works by Rembrandt, his predecessors and followers, who lived in XVII century.

Here you can see sketches of the famous engravings of Rembrandt “Saint Jerome reading on the background of the Italian landscape” (an engraving itself, by the way, now exposed in Sinebrukhov Museum, Helsinki) and “Christ in Gethsemane.”

Appointments of the works are diverse – this is preparatory sketches and stand-alone works of art, and sketches of foreign works, and diary entries with illustrations.

Drawings and prints on display are hanging on the walls, and for examining them, visitors can take advantage of special loupe.

This variant of exhibiting graphics is uncommon, but it is the most convenient for those who wants to explore the paintings in detail.

By the way, in the house of Rembrandt is a real engraving workshop in which young visitors can try themselves as an artist.

Hydro Power Plants in Adjara

Turkish company will start to build three new hydroelectric power plants in Adjara this year.

These hydro power plants are included in 15 HPP, about which Georgian government officially noted.

According to Energy and Natural Resources Ministry “Adjar Energy 2007” will construct “Khelvachauri HPP 1“, “Khelvachauri HPP 2” – and “Kirnati HPP” in Adjara. Presumable total cost of Turkish investment is estimated as USD 196 032 494.

The total installed capacity of hydro power plants is 105.67 MW and the total annual generation – 495 million kilowatt / hours.

Turkish company will finish building them in December 2016 and they will enter into service in 2017.

Memorandum between Georgian government and Adjar Energy 2007 was signed in July 2011.

Portrait of Henrietta Moraes By Francis Bacon

Painting “Portrait of Henrietta Moraes” by Francis Bacon was sold by auction house Christie‘s for 25 million Euros.

This painting painted Bacon in 1963, after which it remained for 30 years in private collection.

This work has become the most expensive lot of the Christie’s London auction in the section of postwar and contemporary art since 2008.

The canvas depicts close friend of Bacon, who was a model for a number of his paintings.

Bacon is one of the most famous expressionists of the second half of XX century and also one of the most expensive painters of the last century.

In 2008 his painting “Nude” was sold for nearly 40 million Dollars. However, it is not the limit, the most expensive painting by Bacon is the “Triptych” (1976). In 2008 the painting was sold for 86 million Dollars to Russian businessman Roman Abramovich.
